Day 64: A Peaceful Day

Started: Tuolumne Meadows (942.5)

Ended: Tentsite (956.1)

Total Miles: 13.6 + 2.0 Super Extra Bonus Miles

Nap wasn’t feeling well last night, so we agreed to sleep until 7:00 a.m. There is a cafe here, and they start serving breakfast at 8 a.m. It meant a late start, but a hike with a good breakfast is a good hike.

When it was time to leave, we took the wrong trail. It looked like the right trail, but it was not. By the time we realized it, we had gone a mile.

We stopped at the Soda Springs. It is naturally carbonated water. It is supposed to be the best water on the trail. It had a strong iron taste and smell. I wasn’t a fan.

We hiked next to the Tuolumne Waterfall. There we jumped in and bathed in the ice cold water. We ate lunch there and I took a nap. Every once in a while the wind would blow and I would be hit with mist. The sun was warm and there was a perfect balance of sun and mist.

We hiked the rest of the way passing through meadows until we reached our campsite.

We meant to go farther, but missing the trail meant we wasted more time.

Colleen the Machine joined us for dinner. I’m looking for a fourth hiker for the family. I don’t want to be the third wheel with Nap and Bubbles. They do a wonderful job of not making me feel like that. Colleen fits in as she is very intelligent, but she would have to slow down a bit.

Tomorrow we return to climbing passes. The whole day will consist of ups and downs. After all we’ve been through, it is going to be no big deal.
